When you are missing multiple, most of, or all of your teeth, it isn’t easy to complete daily tasks, like chewing your food, speaking clearly, and smiling with confidence. Fortunately, dentures help restore the appearance and function of the teeth, improving your quality of life. It makes sense that you are eager to receive your replacement teeth, so how long can you expect it to take? Continue reading to learn more about the denture process and what to look forward to.
How Long Does It Take to Get Dentures?
There are several factors that contribute to the number of appointments that are required from start to finish. The first thing to consider is whether or not you have teeth that need to be extracted beforehand. If you don’t need any tooth extraction, you can likely expect to receive your final restoration in about three to four appointments.
What Does the Dentures Process Look Like?
Modern dentures aren’t like the ones that your grandparents used to wear. They are entirely custom, so they require a multi-step process. Here are the main steps that you can expect:
- Extractions: This step isn’t required for every patient. However, many patients require tooth extractions before they can get their dentures. After the extractions are performed, it takes a few months to heal before moving on to the next step.
- Sizing: Everyone’s smile is entirely unique. That’s why the first thing we do is take impressions of your mouth. Measurements are also taken to ensure that the bite pattern is current. There may also be a wax mockup of the prosthetic teeth so the dentist can ensure that the dentures fit properly.
- Adjustments: Every time you visit the dental office, the mockup needs adjustments to ensure that your dentures match your facial features. The teeth need to be the correct length and width to give the natural appearance you’re looking for.
- Placement: Once the final adjustments are complete, your dentures will be placed. You might need additional adjustments made for optimal comfort and functionality. Just let your dentist know how your dentures feel in your mouth so corrections can be made. Your dentures shouldn’t cause you any discomfort.
It will take some time to get your dentures, but they will fit perfectly snugly when you do. Showing off your beautiful, complete smile will be well worth the wait!
